After logging in, you have access to all the information in the database from the page that appears. There are three types of information:

Publications & Reports

Market Research

Directories

If you want to focus on a specific sport, or on a category such as “Women’s Sports” or “Youth Sports,” click on that sport and you’ll find access to Publications & Reports, Market Research, and Directories for that sport or category.

HERE’S HOW TO USE EACH OF THESE THREE SEPARATE INFORMATION RESOURCES:

PUBLICATIONS & REPORTS:

There are three drop-down boxes to help you refine your search. BE SURE TO MAKE A DECISION ABOUT EACH OF THESE CHOICES BEFORE CLICKING ON “SEARCH”:

1. PUBLICATION (S): You may either search for all articles from all publications (the default) or you may scroll down the menu and highlight one publication. ALL REPORTS ARE ALSO ACCESSIBLE FROM THIS MENU. HERE ARE YOUR CHOICES FOR REPORTS:

  1. FACILITY REPORTS: Highlight “RSV Pro Facilities Reports” or “RSV College
    Facilities Reports”

  2. CUSTOM REPORTS: Highlight “Custom Reports” and you’ll be taken to a
    page with three report options:

Physical Fitness Trends: Business & Policy Implications

Global Aging & Sport

TV Sports Rights 2007

  1. NEW MEDIA REPORTS: Highlight “New Media,” ignore the “Year” and
“Subject’ boxes and click on “Search.” You’ll be taken to a page with a menu of
    all New Media Reports.

2. YEAR: The default year is “2007-08.” You also have the option of searching as far back as 1996.

When searching “CUSTOM REPORTS,” we suggest using “2006-2008” since Global Aging and Sport was produced in 2006. When searching “NEW MEDIA” we suggest using “2003-2008” since reports go back to 2003.

3. SUBJECT: Use this space to refine your search. For example, an "all word" search using the following words: Pittsburgh Penguins ice hockey and your search will locate all articles that had all four of these words in the text.

Here are some key words to isolate articles for specific major categories:

Auto Sports (use for motorsport searches)
Broadcast
College Sports
Endorsement
Facilities
Financial
Internet
Licensing

Marketsurvey (use to find all types of research information, including market studies, broadcast ratings, etc. that appear in publication articles)

Olympics
Sport (any - archery, baseball, etc.)
Women

After making (or skipping) any selection in these three boxes, click on “Search”

MARKET RESEARCH:

Separate choices include participation, consumer expenditures/purchases, TV viewership, attendance, and sporting goods Imports. Clicking on any of these choices in the list will take you to a complete menu of all tables provided for that category of information.

1. Consumer Expenditures (Market Size)

This menu includes a series of tables that provide the following information for that product since 1993 (Some sports have been measured annually, others every other year):

(a) Demographics, (age, education, gender, region, and household income)
(b) Brand Share for leading brands
(c) Distribution patterns by outlet type, separately for unit and dollar purchases
(c) Consumer purchases by price point
(e) Total Market (in units and dollars)

The "Base" for each table appears at the bottom of the table. It is the figure upon which the percentages are based.

2. Participation

Participation information for a sport includes a series of tables reporting on the total number of participants vs. the number of frequent participants; participation by demographics (age, education, gender, geographic region, market size, age/presence of children, and for more popular sports, by state). Most tables contain information since 1993. Some sports have been measured annually, others every other year. The "Base" for all of these tables is the total number of participants for the market.

Intercollegiate and Interscholastic (high school) participation are also reported. These tables show the number of schools sponsoring the sport and the number of athletes participating.

3. Attendance

For each sport measured (baseball, basketball, bowling, boxing, fishing, golf, horse racing, ice hockey, lacrosse, martial arts, motorsports, rodeo, soccer, tennis and wrestling) information includes total number plus demographic profiles of attendees. Total paid attendance data is also provided for baseball, basketball, football, ice hockey and soccer, as well as for NCAA basketball and football. This information may be accessed by click on the appropriate sport in the "Single-Sport" section.

4. TV Viewership

For each sport measured (baseball, basketball, bowling, boxing, fishing, golf, horse racing, ice hockey, lacrosse, martial arts, motorsports, rodeo, soccer, tennis and wrestling) information includes total number plus demographic profiles of TV viewers.

5. Imports

Total import value of specific products. As a matter of interest, total cost shown for a product usually represents a range between 10 and 25% of the total retail price of that product.
